Mother Goose
Chichester Festival Theatre
Start time: 2.30pm
Ian McKellen, renowned Shakespearean actor, film and theatre superstar, national treasure…. dons a pneumatic bust and swaps his ‘Sir’ for ‘Dame’ to become Mother Goose!
McKellen’s Mother Goose, her husband Vic (comedian and actor John Bishop) and son Jack have hit hard times as they try to keep their Oxford Street shelter for orphaned animals financially afloat. Fortuitously, good witch Encanta sends a golden-egg-laying Cilla Quack their way. But baddie Malignia is cacklingly confident that sudden riches will corrupt the family...
‘Ian McKellen owns the stage in a tour-de-force of self-parody, comic timing and a perfectly tuned sense of impending chaos. He is the beating heart of this warmly inclusive and winningly open-handed production’ Time Out
‘Sir Ian delivers eye-rubbing wow-factor as the greatest of panto dames’ The Telegraph
‘…no end of fun in this cheerfully chaotic show, packed full with scattergun gags… In bleak and cynical times, it’s the kind of knockabout entertainment that we need’ The Times
